South Wales Cricket Association (1st XI League Games Only)
CIMLA CRICKET CLUB entered the SOUTH WALES CRICKET ASSOCIATION in 1964 and have remained in membership ever since. The 2nd XI was formed in 1965 and kept alive many of CIMLA’s traditional “friendly” links from the earlier era. In 1973 they too bowed to competition and initially joined the Morgannwg League before the SWCA extended its 2nd XI competition to the lower Divisions in 1981, the “friendly” tradition being continued by the Sunday XI which came into being in 1980. In 1987, the Club added two further sides when a 3rd senior XI joined the WWCA and a Midweek XI entered the “Neath Guardian” League. Both teams have competed uninterrupted ever since although several “more fashionable” clubs have fallen by the wayside and ceased to be members of these leagues. The Club’s first Junior XI was also started in 1987. In 1996 the pavilion at Cefn Saeson was rebuilt and a grant from the Foundation for Sport and the Arts, backed by members fund raising efforts, saw many improvements made to the facilities at the ground. Thanks to the good offices of scorers past and present, complete records have been kept of Cimla Cricket Club's progress throughout its SWCA existence. |
